This manual was created to inform patients about pain after surgery. A working group within the Canadian Pain Society adapted the manual to help all patients with pain during a hospital stay. It is our hope that when patients are better informed about pain, they are empowered to advocate for their pain needs.
We have posted the manual in two versions available for download: Microsoft Word® and PDF. The Word® format can be modified and adapted for your institution with your own pictures and logos. We encourage you to use this manual at your institution for all adult patients. If you are a patient, print this manual and bring this to your hospital or clinic and ask if they offer similar education. The more we can distribute resources like this, the greater the impact we can have on improving pain awareness, assessment, and management.
If you have any questions or comments on the adaptation of this manual, please contact Brandy Love, MN, NP at firstname.lastname@example.org
